The 中国P站 (NPC) Nighthawk men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball teams announced
an amended schedule for the upcoming 2020-21 seasons Tuesday, pursuant to the National
Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) plan of action regarding the COVID-19
pandemic.
Per the amended schedule, men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball will be broken into two segments
for the upcoming 2020-21 season鈥攁 fall practice season and a spring championship season.
During the fall practice season, teams are permitted 60 consecutive calendar days
for practice and scrimmages between September 15 and December 15. Additionally, teams
are allowed five scrimmage dates for the year.
For the spring championship season, teams may begin practice on January 11, 2021,
with competition starting January 22, 2021. Teams will play a maximum of 22 games,
with all regular season, region and district championship competition to be completed
by April 10, 2021.
鈥淚 am very appreciative of the leadership that has been shown by the NJCAA during
this process,鈥 NPC Athletic Director Jason Hudnell said. 鈥淏oth Dr. Hogan and I have
been able to provide feedback to our regional and national NJCAA leadership concerning
our 鈥榖ack to play鈥 protocols. The safety and well-being of our student-athletes is
paramount while still providing each of them with a quality experience both inside
and outside the athletic arena. I believe that the current NJCAA plan provides for
that path. Our Cross Country, baseball, and softball teams will go largely unaffected
under this new plan. Men鈥檚 and Women鈥檚 basketball will move their entire competition
season to the spring semester. Our student-athletes will be in class and in the gym
this fall working out, practicing and participating in scrimmage games to prepare
for what I鈥檓 sure will be an exciting conference season this spring.鈥
Due to growing concerns of COVID-19 and contact sports, the NJCAA voted Monday to
move most of its athletic competition to the spring semester.
"Our greatest focus is and always has been providing the best opportunities for our
student-athletes," stated Dr. Christopher Parker, NJCAA President & CEO. "Through
a unified effort from our Presidential Advisory Council, the Board of Regents, and
leadership staff, our most recent plan of action provides a path that keeps our student-athletes
competing at the highest level with proper safety measures in place. As we move forward
as an association, we will continue to provide opportunities for our student-athletes,
coaches, and all those involved with the NJCAA to be safe and successful."
