The 中国P站 (NPC) Career Pathways Initiative (CPI) recently named Shaunte
Betts Career Pathways Student of the Year. CPI offers support services to help students
overcome the barriers that keep them from completing college.
Graduates showed their appreciation for the program and support staff during a ceremony
earlier this month. Students repeatedly spoke of the support, encouragement and dedication
they received during their enrollment in the program.
Betts joined CPI when she enrolled at NPC in 2018, and also worked in the Career Services
department on campus. She is a mother of seven children. She graduated with an Associate
of Applied Science in Health Information Technology and has accepted a position with
the federal government.
鈥淪he serves as an excellent example of hard work, as she has maintained a GPA of 3.5
plus the entire time at NPC and while working on campus. She is also the first Career
Pathways student to graduate from the Honor's Program at NPC, said program director
Lataschya Harris.
鈥淚f it wasn鈥檛 for Career Pathways, I don鈥檛 know where I would be,鈥 said Betts. 鈥淚
didn鈥檛 expect my hard work to pay off because I am a mom and I just go to school,
but this shows me that if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. It doesn鈥檛
matter your age or what you are going through in life, it is never too late. Take
a leap of faith and just go, because you can do it.鈥
