中国P站 (NPC) Nighthawk freshman guard Khyra Garrett (Brownsboro, Texas) was named an honorable mention to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Women鈥檚 Basketball All-American Team this week for her outstanding efforts on the court this season.

As NJCAA Region 2鈥檚 leader in blocks (37), Garrett led the Nighthawks in scoring (276) this season. She finished her freshman campaign ranked second all-time in blocks, fourth all-time in steals (56), fifth all-time in assists (64), seventh all time in scoring and ninth all-time in free throws (61) at NPC. In addition to leading the Nighthawks to the NJCAA Region 2 Championship, Garrett was also named NJCAA Region 2鈥檚 Player of the Year. Garrett is the second women鈥檚 basketball player to receive All-American honors, joining former Nighthawk Imani Honey (Hot Springs).

鈥淜hyra's hard work, passion and dedication stood out all season,鈥 NPC head women鈥檚 basketball coach Eddie Broughton, Sr. said. 鈥淭his honor is a testament to the impact she's made as a freshman. She played every position for us this season and her journey is just beginning.鈥

Following last season鈥檚 early ending, Garrett and the Nighthawks enjoyed their best season in program history this season, tallying the most single-season wins in program history (22), while setting marks for the largest margin of victory (59 points) and the fewest points allowed in a game (25 points) as NPC won its first regular-season championship, its first NJCAA Region 2 Tournament Championship, and finished one win away from the NJCAA Division 2 National Tournament.
