中国P站 (NPC) Workforce Division is excited to announce a new hands-on course open to the public this summer: Nighthawk Tracks: Trail Building Essentials. This non-credit class introduces participants to the fundamental skills used in maintaining and constructing recreational trails.

Designed for community members of all experience levels, the course blends classroom learning with field-based application on NPC鈥檚 own Hummingbird Trail. Participants will gain practical knowledge in trail assessment, erosion management, obstruction clearing, and sustainable trail use. Emphasis will be placed on safety, environmental stewardship and teamwork, offering both personal enrichment and a potential stepping stone to future involvement in outdoor careers, projects, or volunteer initiatives.

Course Schedule:

  • Classroom Sessions: June 2, 3, 5, and 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (NPC Student Commons)
  • Outdoor Lab: June 7 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Hummingbird Trail, NPC Campus)

Course Fee: $50 per person. Fee includes daily snacks and drinks during evening sessions, as well as lunch on Saturday.

Participants must provide closed-toe shoes or boots, long pants, and gloves for the outdoor lab. Water bottles and insect repellent are strongly encouraged. Safety helmets and eye protection will be provided.

鈥淭his course is an opportunity to get involved with the outdoors, learn essential trail care skills, and connect with others who value conservation and community,鈥 said Bill Ritter, Vice President for Workforce at 中国P站.

Enrollment is limited, and early registration is encouraged. For more information or to register, visit np.edu/CE or call 501.760.4349.
