Three members of the 中国P站 (NPC) Nighthawk women鈥檚 basketball team
recently broke all-time program records in assists, rebounding and blocks.
Sophomore guard Khayla Garrett (Brownsboro, Texas) recently became NPC鈥檚 all-time
leader in assists, surpassing former Nighthawk India Atkins鈥 (Bryant) record, which stood for three seasons. Garrett leads National Junior College
Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Region 2 in assists (67) and ranks second
in the region in steals (47), while averaging 6.2 points per game for the Nighthawks
this season.
Sophomore forward Aaliyah Hollins (Nashville) became the program鈥檚 all-time leader in rebounds, passing Atkins鈥 record which stood
for three seasons. Averaging 8.2 boards per game, Hollins ranks second in the region
in total rebounds (147), while ranking fourth in assists (50) and steals (41) and
contributing 6.8 points per game for NPC.
In Wednesday鈥檚 77-53 victory at Southeast Arkansas College, sophomore guard Khyra
Garrett (Brownsboro, Texas) became NPC鈥檚 all-time leader in blocks, taking down former Nighthawk Essieana Bennett鈥檚 (Houston, Texas) record that stood for three seasons.
Garrett, the reigning NJCAA Division II Region 2 Player of the Year, leads the Nighthawks
in scoring this season, averaging 12.6 points per contest. Regionally, Garrett ranks
third in scoring (252), blocks (26), free throws (72) and free throw percentage (75.8),
while ranking fourth in field goals (82).
鈥淥ne of the things I tell our recruits is this: you can go somewhere and blend in or you can go somewhere and matter,鈥 head coach Eddie Broughton, Sr. said. 鈥淭hese young ladies chose to leave a legacy. They poured themselves into this program and carved their names into it and they are not done yet. It is exciting to see and to be a part of.鈥
